Failté or Welcome to the website for the Isle of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club!

Scott Leslie Trio

Blustery weather resulted in fewer than usual members and friends attending the December meeting of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club in Portree’s Royal Hotel. Following a welcome from compere Jim Campbell an evening of superb music was started by fiddler Rachel Henderson who soon had audience feet tapping. Regular accordionist Emily Matheson contributed several solo sets and was later accompanied by drummer Charlie Oag. More fiddle music from Wendy Riva in her polished style provided a Scottish selection followed by seasonal favourites such as Jingle Bells, White Christmas and more which allowed the audience to exercise their vocal chords. Peter O’Donnghaile played a couple of Gaelic airs on his 1-row melodeon before making way for the Club’s special guest band, The Scott Leslie Trio who had last guested at the Club seventeen years ago. Led by Scott Leslie from Bathgate on piano accordion with midi, was fiddle maestro Iain Anderson of Glasgow and drummer Keith Lauder of Langholm completing the trio. An exciting and dynamic programme of music to the highest standard flowed from the Trio to keep their audience happy. A fair bit of ‘craic’ was included as were three great fiddle solos from Iain Anderson. With their lively sound and variety of tempos it is unsurprising that the Trio are much in demand throughout the country. What a great evening of music from Club players and the special guests. The next Club night will be in the Royal Hotel on Thursday 9th January 2020 when the special guests will be The Lindsay Weir Duo.
