Adin Graham Trio

The onset of autumn heralded the start of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club’s 2019/2020 season of monthly meetings held in their home venue of Portree’s Royal Hotel. Members and friends gathered in the evening of the first Thursday of October eagerly anticipating a night of their favourite genre of music and they most certainly were not to be disappointed. M.C. Julia Rudram introduced accordionist Emily Matheson who opened proceedings with a superbly executed rendition of the slow air Margaret Ann Robertson followed by several lively sets which delighted the audience. Later in the evening Emily was accompanied by young drummer, Charlie Oag, playing in public for the very first time. Well done, Charlie! From box to fiddle, it was the great playing of fiddler Rachel Henderson with some excellent sets which included marches and a strathspey and reel set keeping audience toes tapping. Another young player was accordionist Carmen Macaskill who made her contribution with competence and confidence to be followed with selections from Julia Rudram who had exchanged her microphone for her fiddle. A welcome newcomer to the Club was Peter Donnghale with his interesting melodeon and he has promised to return in the future with more tunes. And so to the Club’s special guest band for the evening, The Adin Graham Trio being led on piano accordion by Adin Graham from Windygates and joined on stage by Rory Matheson of Assynt on piano and Robbie MacKenzie from Inverness on fiddle. The trio delighted the audience with their vibrant and varied programme of sets interspersed with a bit of craic and some great arrangements. One of the highlights was a fiddle solo by Robbie titled Night In Glencoe Mills which had been composed by his brother Graeme. This was the Trio’s first appearance at the Skye Club but most surely will not be the last! The Club look forward to their next meeting in the same venue on Thursday 7th November when their special guests will be their popular friends The Janet Graham Scottish Dance Band.
