Failté or Welcome to the website for the Isle of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club!

Gillian Stevenson Band

Musicians and audience were sparse in numbers at the March meeting of Skye Accordion & Fiddle Club in Portree’s Royal Hotel. However the lower than usual numbers were more than compensated for by the quality of the music throughout the evening. Club chairperson Julia Rudram started the evening by presenting cheques on behalf of the Club to representatives from Alzheimer’s Scotland and Broadford Hospital Chemo Fund. Thereafter it was music all the way in what turned out be very much a ladies night starting with some great solo fiddling from Rachel Henderson of Elgol. Time for a change of instrument and it was the piano accordion in the talented hands of Emily Matheson which wowed the audience with a fabulous waltz, reels and a Russian tune demonstrating her ever expanding repertoire. Compere Julia Rudram put aside her mic and gave a solo selection on her fiddle to be followed by Club stalwart Wendy Riva, also on fiddle with a well prepared and interesting set to her usual high standard. Special guests for the evening were The Gillian Stevenson Band, led on fiddle by Gillian from Culbokie with Susie Simpson of Inverness on keyboard and piano accordion and Maggie Jamieson of Rogart on drums. From the start of their programme their personalities shone through engaging with the audience and it was evident that their playing complemented each other creating a great sound throughout their varied session which ended in a great wee “stramash”. On 4th April 2019 the Club look forward to being entertained by The Andy Philip Duo in the Royal Hotel, Portree.
