Failté or Welcome to the website for the Isle of Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club!

Steven Carcary Duo

The May meeting of the Skye Accordion and Fiddle Club in the Royal Hotel, Portree was the final monthly meeting of their 2017/18 season and was compered by Jim Campbell. Starting off the entertainment were some great sets by young accordionist Emily Matheson who just seems to get better with each visit to the Club and her sensitive treatment of the music is a delight to hear. Eight year old Tilly Ng with her fiddle, always a favourite with the Club regulars, stepped up to make her contribution as did Committee member and self taught fiddler Julia Rudram. The final local player on stage was accordionist Jocelyn Galbraith who came along to support her Club despite having school exams the following morning. Thereafter it was over to the special guests in the persons of The Steven Carcary Duo who staged a most incredibly varied programme which included not only traditional Scottish sets but also a rumba, what they described as “jazzy swing”, a drum solo, continental, and the classic “Czardas”. Steven Carcary from Bridge of Earn was on piano accordion with a flawless performance accompanied on drums by the legendary Malcolm Ross from Arbroath and playing to a spellbound audience. A fitting end to a great season of monthly Club nights thanks to two of Scotland’s finest musicians! However before the summer break the Club look forward to hosting once again the popular annual Skye Accordion and Fiddle Festival which attracts many of the country’s top bands and solo players from far and wide, too numerous to mention here, for a weekend of fun, friendship and fabulous music. The Festival Weekend, based in Portree’s Royal Hotel, kicks off on the evening of Thursday 24th May at 7.30 pm and more details can be found on the Club website at Hope to see you there!
